Massage is designed to create the correct conditions to allow the body to heal and return to total health. If the muscles or tendons of the body become injured, tense, or impaired in any sense, this can cause a number of symptoms – from low-level discomfort to chronic or recurring pain. By increasing blood flow to affected areas of the body, massage is able to relieve pain, relax muscles, and allow whole body healing.
Massage may be used to treat a number of conditions, including chronic pain, sciatica, arthritis, bursitis, headache, sprains, general back pain, sports injuries, and a range of muscular-skeletal conditions. In addition, deep tissue massage (a more intense therapy) may also be able to alleviate issues associated with scar tissue and blockages in muscle groups. Massage also may assist in shortening recovery time after particular injuries.
From a holistic perspective, massage is also an effective stress-reduction mechanism for both physical and emotional stresses experienced in daily life. Regular massage may improve circulation, keep tendons supple and healthy, and allow your body to flush toxins more efficiently.
A defining feature of the massage therapy we offer at Bounce Back Therapies is our use of myofascial trigger point release. You may have heard of these referred to as trigger points, or more commonly, muscle knots. These trigger points in the muscle can cause pain to radiate out within the body, eventually resulting in a referred pain pattern where you may experience pain originating in one location at various points throughout the body. Through release of myofascial trigger points, these referred patterns of pain can be disrupted; this means that by releasing a trigger point at the initial site of discomfort, pain elsewhere in the body may also be relieved.
Your therapist will work with you to identify specific areas that require treatment, and aim to alleviate your pain while allowing your body to heal at the source of the discomfort.
Our clinics are in Ballina and Byron Bay.
